Center Overview
The Language Center was established on August 20, 2002. We are committed to creating a comprehensive environment for foreign-language and Mandarin Chinese education, integrating diverse learning resources, and providing high-quality language learning and continuing education services for NUK faculty and students, overseas Chinese students, exchange students, international students, and the general public.
◎ Our Main Missions
1Provide foreign-language continuing education services for NUK faculty, students, and the general public.
2Administer and support various foreign-language proficiency tests and assessments.
3Provide Mandarin Chinese continuing education services for overseas Chinese students, exchange students, international students, and foreign residents in Taiwan.
4Provide commissioned foreign-language and Mandarin Chinese education, training, and continuing education courses for government agencies, schools, and public or private organizations in Taiwan and abroad.
5Promote other initiatives related to foreign-language and Mandarin Chinese training.

Foreign Language Teaching Division
Offers English, second foreign language, language-test preparation, professional development, and commissioned courses for government agencies, schools, companies, and organizations.
Mandarin Chinese Teaching Division
Offers general Mandarin, applied Mandarin, workplace Mandarin, corporate programs, and industry-specific customized Mandarin courses.
Foreign Language Teaching Division
Foreign Language Teaching Division
The Foreign Language Teaching Division offers a wide range of language courses covering everyday conversation, language-test preparation, workplace applications, and second foreign languages, helping learners strengthen both language proficiency and practical communication skills according to their needs.
◎ Foreign Language Continuing Education Courses
English Courses
Courses include English conversation, English writing, workplace English, and business English, with an emphasis on practical communication and application.
Second Foreign Language Courses
Languages include Japanese, Korean, French, Thai, Vietnamese, Indonesian, and Spanish, providing learners with a broad range of language-learning options.
Language Test Preparation
Courses include TOEIC, GEPT, IELTS, and TOEFL preparation, along with relevant mock tests and test-taking practice.
◎ Customized Foreign Language Programs for Organizations
Programs can be customized for government agencies, schools, companies, and organizations, including English conversation, business English, business presentations, TOEIC, GEPT, basic business writing, Chinese-English translation, and other professional English courses.
Mandarin Chinese Teaching Division
Mandarin Chinese Teaching Division
The Mandarin Chinese Teaching Division primarily serves international students, foreign residents in Taiwan, foreign employees of companies, and groups with Mandarin-learning needs. Instruction is offered in small classes, one-on-one formats, or customized group programs, with an emphasis on individual needs and classroom interaction to strengthen Mandarin proficiency, workplace communication, and everyday practical language skills.
Mandarin courses are organized at elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels according to learners’ proficiency and goals, balancing listening, speaking, reading, and writing while adjusting content progressively by level. In addition to general Mandarin courses, the Center can offer presentation skills in Mandarin, intensive beginner Mandarin, workplace Mandarin, and industry-specific customized Mandarin programs based on learner or organizational needs.
◎ General Mandarin Courses
Elementary Mandarin
Basic vocabulary and pronunciation, fundamental sentence patterns and grammar, and everyday conversation.
Intermediate Mandarin
Everyday conversation, oral expression training, short reading selections, and writing practice.
Advanced Mandarin
Advanced reading, writing practice, listening comprehension, and topic-based oral expression.
◎ Applied Mandarin Courses
Media Mandarin
Uses newspapers, magazines, radio, and news reports to develop listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills.
Business Mandarin
Focuses on Mandarin for business situations, business correspondence, and practical conversation.
Presentation Skills in Mandarin
Trains learners to structure presentations, speak effectively, explain information, and handle Q&A in Mandarin, strengthening presentation skills for academic, workplace, and corporate settings.
Computing and Writing in Mandarin
Builds familiarity with Chinese-language word processing and basic computer applications such as Word and Excel.
Basic Mandarin Writing
Strengthens Chinese sentence organization, paragraph writing, and written expression.
◎ Customized Mandarin Programs for Organizations and Industries
Intensive Beginner Mandarin
Designed for learners with no prior Mandarin background or first-time learners, this intensive introductory course covers basic pronunciation, common vocabulary, everyday conversation, and practical sentence patterns to build basic communication skills in a short period.
Workplace Mandarin
Customized for companies or organizations, covering workplace communication, understanding work instructions, meeting conversations, customer reception, workplace safety language, and cross-cultural communication to help foreign employees adapt to the work environment.
Industry-Specific Customized Mandarin
Customized courses can be developed for different industries, such as semiconductors, manufacturing, screws and fasteners, traditional industries, and services, integrating industry vocabulary, workplace scenarios, on-site communication, and practical needs into course design.
Commissioned Programs for Groups and Institutions
The Center accepts commissions from government agencies, schools, companies, and organizations and designs Mandarin training programs according to learners’ levels, course objectives, instructional hours, and venue requirements.
Multicultural Activities and Experiential Learning
Cultural Activities and Experiential Learning
Beyond language courses, the Language Center actively organizes multicultural activities that extend learning beyond the classroom, allowing learners to experience culture, use language in authentic settings, and deepen their understanding of Taiwanese society and local life.

Activities include off-campus learning and cultural visits, themed campus celebrations, Taiwanese festival experiences, ecological and local cultural exploration, religious-cultural walks, sports culture experiences, bilingual transportation learning, marine ecology education, and local guided tours.

AMaolin Ecological and Cultural Walk
During the purple crow butterfly migration season, international students visited the Maolin National Scenic Area for butterfly watching, ecological interpretation, mountain trails, a walk through Duona Village, and local cultural experiences, gaining first-hand insight into Taiwan’s natural and cultural landscape.
BInternational Students Make Dumplings for Lunar New Year
During the Lunar New Year season, international students prepared fillings, wrapped, and cooked dumplings together, learning about reunion, good fortune, and Taiwanese festive food culture through hands-on cooking and sharing.
CDajia Mazu Pilgrimage Cultural Experience
Combining cultural orientation with on-site participation, international students joined the Mazu pilgrimage environment and learned about Taiwanese folk religion and religious culture through incense traditions, ritual observation, and local interaction.
DTaiwan Baseball Culture Experience
International students attended a Chinese Professional Baseball League game at Chengcing Lake Baseball Stadium, experiencing Taiwan’s baseball culture through cheering, fan interaction, and shared viewing while also learning about venue operations, event planning, and sports marketing.
EFrom the Classroom to the Ocean: Bilingual Transit and Marine Ecology Exploration
NUK international Mandarin learners traveled to Pingtung by bilingual sightseeing bus and visited an aquatic research center and the National Museum of Marine Biology and Aquarium, learning about Taiwan’s marine research, ecological conservation, and sustainable development through bilingual transit, marine interpretation, and real-world Mandarin practice.
