Established on August 20, 2002, the Language Center of National University of Kaohsiung is committed to building a comprehensive learning environment for English, foreign languages, and Mandarin education. By integrating diverse learning resources, the center provides quality language learning and extension education services for NUK students and faculty, overseas Chinese students, exchange students, international students, and the general public.
As a university-level center, our main responsibilities include:
Based on teaching and administrative needs, the center consists of the following two divisions:
The English and Foreign Language Teaching Division offers a wide range of language courses, including daily conversation, language proficiency test preparation, workplace language applications, and second foreign language learning. These courses help learners improve their language proficiency and practical communication skills according to their individual needs.
The Mandarin Teaching Division mainly serves international students, foreign residents in Taiwan, foreign employees of enterprises, and groups with Mandarin learning needs. Through small-group classes, one-on-one instruction, and customized programs, the division emphasizes learners’ individual needs and classroom interaction, helping students improve their Mandarin proficiency, workplace communication skills, and practical language use in daily life.
Based on students’ proficiency levels and learning goals, the center offers elementary, intermediate, and advanced Mandarin courses. The curriculum covers listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, with course content adjusted progressively according to students’ levels. In addition to general Mandarin courses, the center may also offer presentation skills in Mandarin, intensive beginner Mandarin, workplace Mandarin, and industry-specific customized Mandarin courses according to the needs of students or enterprises.
In addition to language courses, the Language Center actively organizes multicultural activities that extend language learning beyond the classroom. These activities allow learners to experience culture, use language in real-life contexts, and deepen their understanding of Taiwanese society and local life.
