The Language Center was established on August 20, 2002. It is dedicated to developing a comprehensive environment for English and foreign language education, integrating diverse learning resources, and providing high-quality language learning and extension education services for students, faculty members, international students, exchange students, and the general public.
The Center is a university-level administrative unit. Its main missions are as follows:
To meet instructional needs, the Center is organized into the following two divisions:
The Division of English and Foreign Language Instruction offers a wide range of language programs, covering daily communication, language proficiency tests, workplace applications, and second foreign languages, to help learners enhance their language abilities according to different needs.
The Division of Chinese Language Instruction adopts small-class teaching or one-on-one instruction, emphasizing individual learner needs and interactive participation to enhance learning effectiveness and practical language use.
Mandarin Chinese (Huayu) courses are generally divided into elementary, intermediate, and advanced levels. The curriculum integrates listening, speaking, reading, and writing skills, with adjustments made according to learners’ proficiency levels. Advanced courses place greater emphasis on reading and writing, while listening and speaking skills are developed based on daily conversational use. In addition, the Center offers applied Chinese courses that integrate traditional and modern elements, as well as Eastern and Western perspectives, according to learners’ needs and interests.
In addition to language courses, the Language Center actively organizes a variety of multicultural activities that extend language learning beyond the classroom. These activities provide authentic contexts for learners to experience culture, enhance language application skills, and deepen their understanding of Taiwanese society and local life.
